Why Choose Us?
This year begins an exciting change for your child. The move to an intermediate school is also the beginning of many new experiences in your child's education. It will be different and we hope that your child will find it both challenging and exciting.
Before your child comes to join us in the new year, she/he will have had the opportunity to find out about this school, see some of the things we are doing, and meet some of the staff.
Pukekohe Intermediate is rather unique in being one of the few semi-rural Intermediates.
Our contributing are:
* Pukekohe Hill School
* Patumahoe School
* Pukekohe Valley School
* Mauku School
* Puni School
* Pukekohe East School
We also attract students from further afield.
Our school has recently undergone extensive development to bring improvement to facilities and the learning environment.
School Organisation
While aiming to continue the individual intellectual development with each student, we also aim to increase social interaction and awareness, extend the appreciation of human values, give increased opportunity to extend cultural interests as well as increasing involvement in sampling new activities.
Class Organisation
In 2011, there are eight Y7 classes, seven Y8 classes and four Y7/Y8 composite classes. A small number of classes will be structured as accelerate classes.
We believe...
that our school should be an enjoyable and safe place in which to work, where every person is valued and has self-respect. We encourage students to become responsibly involved in the broad activities of the school and develop an awareness of, and show consideration for, the needs and wellbeing of others.
We recognise that learning is a lifelong process and that our school plays an important part in the development of our young people. We therefore seek to involve students, parents and other community groups, in this lifelong process. We have an open
door policy and invite parents and whanau to make regular contact with us about their child's progress or discuss the school's direction.
Curriculum
The school provides the core subjects in the homeroom situation taken by the students' class teacher. One advantage in having a home room teacher responsible for teaching the core curriculum is that the teacher really gets to know the child and can ascertain their needs in a lot of situations.
Curriculum at Pukekohe Intermediate School is organised into three lines - Homeroom, Semi-Specialist and Specialist.
